"When misguided public opinion honors what is despicable and despises what is honorable, punishes virtue and rewards vice, encourages what is harmful and discourages what is useful, applauds falsehood and smothers truth under indifference or insult, a nation turns its back on progress and can be restored only by the terrible lessons of catastrophe." … Frederic Bastiat

Evil talks about tolerance only when it’s weak. When it gains the upper hand, its vanity always requires the destruction of the good and the innocent, because the example of good and innocent lives is an ongoing witness against it. So it always has been. So it always will be. And America has no special immunity to becoming an enemy of its own founding beliefs about human freedom, human dignity, the limited power of the state, and the sovereignty of God. – Archbishop Chaput

Trader Dan taking a bit of a break

I wanted to apologize for the lack of regular postings this past week. I am a bit worn out with these markets of late and am attempting to keep my sanity. I will be posting but until I can get some rest and recuperate a bit, I am going to ease off a tad. Thanks for understanding.

  1. Dan,
No one is more deserving of a good, long, restorative rest than you are. I'm not sure you realize how much you are appreciated by all of us out here, so take care of yourself, and know that we are wishing you well.
Frankly, the markets have me feeling pretty exhausted too, and I'm just a peon. ;)

  12. How can you even think about sitting down on the job given what we pay you?!?

Oh wait, we don't pay you anything. I can't even find a "donate" button...

You're something of a saint in my book, sir. And your generously shared insights are appreciated by many. Best of fortune to you and yours; we'll look forward to your rested return.

  13. Dan,

Again you show your wisdom and integrity. Knowing when/how to look after yourself.

Will miss your analysis and insights as this is one of only 2 places I go for the bottom line. Wish you good rest and peace.

  17. Trader Dan,

You are a guiding light; much appreciated by your daily readers for your selfless efforts to share your abundant knowledge.

In the fulness of time, you and others like yourself (Jim S, A Fakete, GATA, all CIGAs, etc) will in DEED have helped the 'unwashed masses willing to learn' to have protected themselves enough in order to rebuilt our country to be what we knew it to be, for our children, and their children.

Rest, Hug, Love, Reinvigorate; amongst you and yours.

    Blessings to you Dan!!!

  20. Wishing you well Dan. Your insight has been of immense value to me over the past few months.

As they say in Sweden Krya på dig!

Meditation is the tool I use to help me gain an alternative perspective and stop the stress of the markets getting to me too much. Could be interesting to look into !?

  24. Dan, I can’t thank you enough for your blog. I’ve learned a lot from reading it. The fact that you are sharing your experience and knowledge with us on this blog is a blessing for all of us. There are too few credible web sites like yours where we can access information of this quality.

In times like today, when the ones in power are systematically looking for ways to hide the truth from sight or distort reality and manipulate public opinion by using all available means, we need people like you that shed some light that help us steer our journey through the storm. With the use of the knowledge and experience of people like you, and a bit of luck, we might be able to avoid smashing on the reefs that are threatening our future.

Take a good rest, recharge your batteries, and enjoy life. But please do come back as this fight isn’t over yet. And we are getting dangerously close to some key chapters of this financial and political disaster.

    Eric
