A Fond Farewell to a Patriot

Congressman Ron Paul retires from Congress this year choosing not to run for re-election. He will be stepping down from Congress after serving faithfully for many long years. He was one of the few leaders who dared to speak the truth and while you may or may not have agreed with him, no one can deny that he loves the precious Constitution and has tried to be faithful to that founding document in spite of pressure from his own political party.

Read these words of his exercpted from his TV interview on Bloomberg today.

One final word - Governor Romney opposed the bailout of GM and wrote an op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal defending his view that the company should be allowed to go into the bankruptcy process to restructure. For his honesty in this area, he was mericlessly demagogued by the Demagogue in Chief Obama and his fellow Comrade Vice President Biden. The result - he lost Michigan and Ohio and could not put a dent into the mid-Western vote. GM has been handed over to Obama's union buddies while the bondholders were stiffed.

This just goes to prove Ron Paul's point, as well as mine, this nation is too far gone to salvage any form of limited Constitutional government. The majority have now chosen to vote themselves the largess of the national treasury and to live off the labors of the now minority productive portion of the nation.

Santa Claus will now win re-election every time. It is just a matter of who gets to wear his suit every four years. It's over.

Ron Paul: Election shows U.S. 'far gone'

Rep. Ron Paul, whose maverick presidential bids shook the GOP, said in the wake of this week's elections that the country has already veered over the fiscal cliff and he sees no chance of righting ship in a country where too many people are dependent on government.

  1. It is indeed a critical time with one less voice of reason, common sense and a historical perspective.

The following pretty much sums things up...

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life and they lost it all - security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free."

    1. “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

To my buddy Turd - that de Tocqueville quote has been ringing in my mind since Tuesday of this week!

It seems to me it is the corporate misanthropes with their lobbyists who have appropriated to themselves the largess of the national treasury. Forget about TARP and bailouts ... just let those of us without lobbyists borrow at 0% and lend at 14.99% APR like Citi and JPM. Let us hire our regulators.

“The suspicions that the system is rigged in favor of the largest banks and their elites, so they play by their own set of rules to the disfavor of the taxpayers who funded their bailout, are true,” Mr. Barofsky said in an interview last week. “It really happened. These suspicions are valid.”

  4. I've lived in Europe for 6 years now. You wouldn't believe it. No one homeless begging in the streets. No one scrounging around with shopping carts. Crime basically non-existent compared to Los Angeles. The lowest newly hired workers get 4 weeks paid vacation. Prices are a bit higher but salaries are about double that of usa counter parts. No property taxes ever. Once you own your house it can never be taken away from you. The taxes here are less than half of what usa workers pay ... I guess it's because there is no military budget ... in fact the government seems to be almost non-existent... I don't see any evidence of it interfering in every nook and cranny like in usa.

    1. Thank you, Steven, for injecting some reality into the reactions of the Romney "dead-enders", who are spewing all kinds of nonsense, such as the idea that we need to have another civil war, and split up the UNITED States of America. Lincoln must be rolling over in his grave, thinking that the hundreds of thousands of American deaths in maintaing the Union were given in vain, just because Bishop Romney did not manage to convincingly change himself from a Massachutsetts liberal to a tea party extremist.

Let's not be ridiculous, and conflate Ron Paul with Bishop Romney. Bishop Romney represents the most archaic and brutal supression of woman's control over their own bodies since polygamy was outlawed. He represents leveraged buyouts of healthy companies, that ravage them, carve them up into pieces, and strip off the carvings into their private bank accounts. He created the model for Obamacare, and now renounces it. He did not even have the intelligence to understand his own campaign, and to acknowledge his defeat. How the heck could this guy run America, if he lives in the Twilight Zone ?

Dan Norcini is a brilliant analyst of commodity markets, and should NOT attempt to reconstruct our Union, an area in which he is not an expert.

    2. Instant Karma - so what makes a man an "expert" so that he is qualified to bemoan what has happened to freedom and to limited Constitutional government in his beloved nation?

SOrry to disappoint you but I intend to keep right on making my "non-expert" comments on the state of this divided nation.

As for you, you are free to become a citizen of any nation that you prefer. Just stop faulting me and those like me who have no desire to live under a European statist model where our gun rights are subject to the UN, where our health care is decided by government planners, where the fruit of our labors is confiscated from us in the name of cosmic justice, where gasoline is north of $5.00 gallon, where the EPA and the IRS live up to and exceed all the worst stories about these two agencies, where money is conjured into existence out of thin air, where corporations are bailed out at taxpayer expense, and where leftist activist judges dominate our circuit, federal and Supreme Court, legislating from the bench, making up rights where none exist and curtailing those which were once, a long time ago,in a galaxy far, far away, believed to have been given to us by God Himself and thus were inviolable.

Hope your love the European big government model because you are about to get a mouthful of it. Try not to choke on it pal.

    3. Dan:

I have no wish to supress your right to express yourself, but you must concede neither of us is a recognized expert on the US Constituion. Please continue to express your thoughts, and allow me to express mine.

You say that "As for you, you are free to become a citizen of any nation that you prefer. Just stop faulting me and those like me who have no desire to live under a European statist model where our gun rights are subject to the UN, (etc, etc)"

You make a fundamental mistake here: I have NO wish to be the citizen of any other nation, and as far as I know, no leading Republican, tea party member, or prominent conservative has called for the dissolution of our Union. You are way out there on your own in this regard.

Secondly, you are the one who has stated you have no desire to live within the US, so I must ask you where do you intend to move ? Europe is clearly out, as I imagine Russia and China....

The conflicts you allude to are all very real, but IMHO none of them should lead us to renounce our country. Remember that even in the darkest days of the the US Civil War, when the most insane butchery was going on between friends, citizens, and neighbors, Abraham Lincoln was steadfast in insisting that these are the UNITED states. I know you love your country (at least you love what it "used to be"), and don't think the threshold has come to abandon it.

    4. A recognized expert on the US Constitution? I'll give you an expert opinion on the US Constitution. Ready? It's a piece of paper and can no more protect you from the depredations of government than a newborn kitten can protect you from a rabid rottweiler. Those in power don't give two sh!ts about it and only use it to justify more control and less freedom for the individual.

"Our country" is nothing more than a set of borders drawn on a map. It doesn't exist and you only believe it exists because like every other person you've been indoctrinated from birth to accept it. There is no nation, it's only people. When the land is full of people who can't think for themselves, who depend on someone else to take from others to provide their living, and especially when the land is ruled by a farce called "democracy" where the majority can take whatever they want from the minority -- Then you have the current state of affairs.

This country is no more "united" than the north pole and the south pole are on the same ends of the earth.

And I am under no illusion that Romney would have been a shred better than Obama. It's an illusion, they're in this together and there's no way out. Romney lost because he was trying to be Obama-lite. Why vote for Obama-lite when you can have the real thing?

  5. It has been such a luxury to be represented in Congress by Dr. Paul. I never had to write or email his office with respect to pending legislation because I already knew he would vote "correctly".

I got involved in the political process this cycle and saw how the GOP machine works on the inside. It's a social club like a high school clique. Nothing is going to change there unless enough fed up people decide to crash the party and send the king clique packing.

In short, get involved. Be the change.

  7. Where to begin?

First of all Thanks to Trader Dan for sharing his knowledge and experience with us and for having the courage to speak from his heart with respect to the dire condition of our Republic.

Before seriously considering the investment of one's time and energy to the political process in the USA please carefully review Dr. Paul's words above, particularly the following: "I do not have much confidence in the political system and never did." Anyone having experience with one of Dr. Paul's last two presidential campaign efforts will be able to validate that statement.

To the adherents of the European statist model of government, please don't use semantics in an attempt to disqualify valid Constitutional opinions. One is not required to be a Constitutional "expert" to hold a valid opinion. Anyone who has read the Constitution of the United States and conducted even a cursory study of its origins can offer a valid opinion.

I am not ready to say that we have seen the end of the Republic. Lost in the election day circus were some very direct challenges to the usurpers of central government authority that came from the people of Alabama, Colorado, Massachusetts, Montana, Washington and Wyoming. Also, I wonder if the central planning statists realize that there are millions of Americans who have sworn an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, whether foreign or domestic. Most of the people of this nation have been duped into thinking that it is divided between red and blue, which is nonsense. Many of us on both sides of the real issue understand that it's the same old, same old. At issue yet again is the individual versus the state. The individual is nature and the state is man's attempt to rule nature, an attempt which always ends in abysmal failure.

This Republic is not dead yet.

    1. Gil - thanks for a rock solid comment.

Your point about the election day votes in certain states challenging the ever increasing and intrusive power of the federak goverment are spot on.

It will come down to the states if we are to have any vestige left of our original Constitutional government but the question will be whether or not they have elected men and women in sufficient numbers, and with strong convictions to their state legislative bodies to actually take a stand against an overreaching washington. they also need to elect a governor who is not afraid to lead in this area and who will not fear losing his bribery money from this same washington. that is the umbilical cord that needs to be cut because it is that federal money which is used to force states to back down. Too many governors/legislators will talk the talk but then when it is crunch time, they see those dollars being taken away and they lose their intestinal fortitude.

  8. tell it like it is, dan!
but even if we had some form of state secession, i just wonder how long it would be before the same liberal elements that are bringing our once great nation down would do the same there.
also. i know conservatives like us want limited gov as far as is practical. but one area real oversight is needed is in regulating banks, trading, and all financial markets in general. losing control of these also leads to where we currently are. (baseball or football without the 'regulation' of the umpires and referees would soon devolve into chaos and cheating at all opportunities.)

but someway or another something has to break. good luck with whatever path you choose to address this - i have pondered my own - and here's to our success at some near point in the future.

  9. Ron Paul was crazy, he opposed George Bush in Texas which is political suicide. Only someone that true to their principles deserves the trust of the Nation. It was so comical watching the Republican debates and hearing the corporate puppets talking in circles around issues and Ron Paul giving such simple common sense answers. My favorite was the question about the FL couple suing over the rights to their daughter in a coma, and how each candidate would handle it, after each dramatic response Ron Paul says, "I'd let the states handle it." To quote the Guiness commercials, Brilliant! If only he looked like George Clooney he'd be President right now.

  10. Dan,

As a small business lender against producing assets, I can attest that the US is about to stay in a state of dissaray. Your assesment of the small business' state of affairs is dead on!! The banks are busy cannibalizing each others portfolio's and rewriting any loans against real estate. Their is NO GROWTH! We had a chance with Romney. He would have provided certain pockets of real growth in energy. Business would have started producing jobs and individuals would have begun to grow with new asset purchases (Gas compressors, oil drilling, pipelines, draglines, shovels, trucks, etc..etc..) Population shifts towards productive strong markets would flourish. This is exactly against the Socialist agenda. They want us trapped in cities, dependent, desperate with an ever decreasing life style. It is the progressive way. I live in Maryland for now. I need out. O'Malley land is horrible. Instead of productive business' they are going to build large casino's. Do you know what follows casino's. More impoverished people who don't have the money to bet will become dependent on the state. Prostitution, cocaine salesman, and service jobs that pay little. Dan, thank you for your rants. I too believe that soon the States will begin to utilize nullifation process. I am visiting the great state of Wyoming very soon. The hills of Virginia is where I will take my last stand. And by the way Dan, your thesis is spot on. The tax and spend will lead to higher unemployment, less productive business'. We are going to bob and sink. Bob and sink. I hope when 4 years are up, we will get back to the American way and not the new progressive deterioration of culture, business, and no opportunity! Here, here, my vote is for Dan!!!

    1. White Wolf - The intermountain West, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah - is a solid bastion of conservatism. One exception is Montana's decision to return Tester to the US Senate. He is so typical of these Democrats that come from Western states. They run around the state telling folks about how fiscally prudent they are, how they support their gun rights, how they are moderate, etc. Then, when crunch time comes, they vote with the party for more big government. Tester cast his vote for that abomination known as Obamacare and yet somehow managed to dupe enough people in his state to return him to office. The main area of liberalism in Montana is in the city of Missoula.

The local and state level overall in Montana however is conservative.

I agree with our thesis - population growth will always follow productive states. Look at Texas and compare that to California which is committing economic suicide. The exodus of the more affluent and business owners out of that state continues and will only increase. It is a microcosm of where the overall US is headed and what it will look like in a decade.
